About us

The IM family law department has a team of Partners, Associates, Solicitors and Legal Executives, with many years experience in this field. It is highly regarded and independently recommended by the Legal 500 and Chambers publications.

The family law team, made up of 14 qualified solicitors and legal executives, has developed its reputation based upon experience and expertise. Operating out of Sheffield, Leeds, Birmingham and London, we are able to advise on complex cases both on a national and international scale, acting regularly for many high profile clients.

As an individualís financial affairs become increasingly complex, so too does the need to have an understanding of the law when there is a breakdown in a relationship.

The majority of clients who have decided that their relationship has broken down want the practical arrangements to be concluded efficiently, expeditiously and with the minimum upheaval to them and their families. We aim to work with our clients in this way which often means bringing in, at an early stage, the knowledge of their financial advisors. However, when necessary we will advise our clients to be pro-active which often involves issuing Court applications, the implications of which will be explained to them in the necessary detail by one of the team.

Our areas of expertise include:

  1. Divorce/Dissolution of civil partnership
  2. Financial settlements, including:
    • Property
    • Pensions
    • Businesses
    • Investments
    • Maintenance
    • Insurance
  3. Asset protection
  4. Relationship breakdown
  5. International disputes
  6. Children
  7. Pre-marital agreement
  8. Civil partnership and pre-civil partnership agreements
  9. Living together agreements
